Critical Care On Call Resident - Queensway Carleton Hospital

Detail:
ICU call starts at 1700h and ends at 0700h the following morning.

Moonlighters are expected to remain in house for the duration of the call shift.

*This is an extra curricular engagement and cannot interfere with any of the moonlighter’s usual clinical duties. Please do not sign up for a shift that would leave you post call for a clinical day or academic day.



On call duties in the ICU include:

Responding to pages and overnight issues arising in patients admitted to the ICU

Responding to Rapid Response Team (CCOT/CCRT/RACE) pages from elsewhere in the hospital

Responding to consults on the inpatient wards, emergency department, PACU

Admitting ICU patients direct from Criticall/OR/or outside sites



*** the moonlighter is functioning in the role of a resident physician. The supervising attending physician remains the MRP. As such, review of overnight activities and procedures is to the discretion of the MRP and should be discussed with the moonlighter to make sure expectations are clearly established.



NB: Criticalls and outside calls are to be directed to the on-call attending ICU physician.



Supervision:
The supervisor for each resident moonlighter is the ICU attending on call that night.

The ICU attending remains MRP for all patients at all times.



The moonlighter will function in the role of a resident trainee. Moonlighters are expected to review consults, procedures, and clinical developments in ICU patients with the on-call attending in a fashion commensurate with their experience and comfort.

The supervisor will remain available at all times to provide telephone or in person support to the moonlighter if called upon.

Supervisors will cosign all moonlighter documentation in a timely manner, in accordance with QCH policy.



Min Requirement:
Residents must have completed a QCH ICU elective and be in good standing with their program.

This is an invite-only program.
