About Sioux Lookout/Northern Communities
Are you a Physician Specialist looking for a change of pace that would allow you to easily balance work and personal life, with ample time for family life? Does a 5-to-10-minute walk to work appeal to you or a scenic flight into a northern community, where you will be welcomed with open arms and have access to a culturally robust community, enjoying activities such as fishing, hunting or nature hikes? Then the Sioux Lookout region maybe just for you!
The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) and Sioux Lookout Regional Physicians' Services Inc. (SLRPSI) work together to deliver comprehensive healthcare to local community and first nations residents across NW Ontario. Sioux Lookout, with a local population of approximately 5,800-6,000 people, serves as the main health hub for 31 remote First Nations communities located north of the town. Many of these northern communities are accessible only by air and have a combined population of more than 32,000+ people. Known as the "Hub of the North", Sioux Lookout is a lead provider of multiple services, with healthcare being central to its role in the region.
The town of Sioux Lookout is a small close-knit community nestled within a network of hundreds of small islands, lakes, endless forests, and the rugged Canadian shield. Living in Sioux Lookout means enjoying an excellent quality of life and the amenities of a larger city, paired with the friendly support of a small town. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, you will be in your element with access to many lakes for swimming and fishing, beaches, kayaking, boating, walking trails, beach volleyball, tennis courts, bocce courts, golfing and cycling; in the winter you can enjoy hockey, recreational skating, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, fat biking and ice fishing. Year round you can enjoy the programs and services available at the Sioux Lookout recreational centre and enjoy the arts/music provided by the Sioux Hudson entertainment series. You can always escape to the big cities of Thunderbay or Winnipeg MB which are approximately 5 hours away.
Overall, our healthcare infrastructure is world renown and brings in Physicians from all over the globe. So, if you want to spend less time commuting, more time enjoying the outdoors and you like living the “good” life, then this opportunity is for you!!
